Welcome to 2018!!

It has been a fantastic start to our year. Everyone is heads down and working hard to produce the best work they can at all times.

In English we are reading a series of enriching picture books linked with our Geography unit - Diversity across Asia. So far we have read a book titled One Step At A Time - by Jane Jolly and are beginning a new book this week, The Little Refugee - by Anh Do !

We are learning about figurative language and how to find it within texts and also how to apply it ourselves. Maybe you can see what they remember about hyperbole! We are revising our grammar and punctuation each day.

We are well into our spelling sessions. In our room we are catering for different abilities and I am absolutely thrilled with how responsible these students are as learners.

We spend some time each week honing our speaking and listening skills alongside our note taking and summarising when we engage with Behind The News - Very informative about current affairs and directed at the students own level of understanding. We have some future debaters in our class!

We are writing reports and narratives as well as descriptive passages.

In Mathematics we are working with our Oxford Maths program and doing daily computation skills. We are working hard to make sure each student is given worthwhile support and extension to suit their needs. We do our topic assessments each Friday.

In Creative and Performing Arts we are spending time each Friday doing either Dance or Music as a grade group. Drama and Visual Arts are done within our own class.

We have a fitness session for 15 minutes four mornings a week and sport each Friday. This term we are playing softball and cricket.

Each week in our Personal Development time we revisit our personal goals and discuss the You Can Do It keys and how they can help us each day.

Mrs Young takes us each Monday morning for Science and we are learning about Earth and Space.

Well that is a quick summary catch up from 6V. Keep watching this space.
