Resilience

This term our YCDI (You Can Do It) focus is Resilience.

Resilience is the red key to success.

Resilience means knowing how to stay calm and being able to stop ourselves from getting extremely angry, down or worried when something "bad" happens. It means being able to feel better when we get very upset. It also means being able to control our behaviour so that we bounce back from difficulty and return to work or play.

In our classrooms in Week 2, students discussed their feelings and emotions. Students thought about their own feelings, including the physical symptoms, when they feel extremely angry, sad and worried. Students recognised their emotions, including facial expressions, that they experience when they feel angry, down, worried, lazy and happy. They described situations and events that happen to them that lead to different emotions and recognised the different emotions of others.

In Week 3, students will be discussing common situations, people and events that lead them to get very angry, sad or worried. They will try to rate the intensity of their typical emotional reactions they experience in the face of adversity, negative circumstances and people. Students will think about how young people experience a range of intensities of emotion in the face of adversity. They will talk about how different thoughts lead to different emotions.
